FarmHouse International Fraternity |
FarmHouse Fraternity was founded at the University of Missouri in 1905 by a group of seven men with the dream of a brotherhood among agriculture students; a special brotherhood which emphasized the highest values in life. The name FarmHouse was chosen to signify the membership of agriculture students and indicate pride in and the importance of our agricultural heritage. Currently, FarmHouse Fraternities are found at agriculture Universities across the US as well as our Canadian Brothers at the U of Alberta in Edmonton. Our group was colonized in January 2004 and became a full fledged chapter in April 2007. We meet usually bi-weekly to plan events etc. Anyone is welcome to come out and see what it is all about and potentially pledge to join the fraternity this semester. What you may not know is that FarmHouse is a "dry" fraternity, thus the members do not drink at fraternity planned events. FarmHouse is opposed to hazing during the initiation of pledges because "One cannot build men by tearing down boys". Although the University of Guelph does not support fraternities or sororities, FarmHouse is a unique fraternity that does not participating in the typical fraternity practices. There are lots of great benefits to being in the group including study groups, an exam/midterm bank, great events, trips to other fraternities and most importantly the brotherhood. The FarmHouse motto "Builders of Men" encompasses excellence in scholarship, spiritual growth, social and moral development, and physical health. There are dues that are paid to cover costs and pay FarmHouse International for their services. In a world filled with challenge and opportunity for service, it is important that we be aware of the need for a brotherhood of men. Banded together with brothers in FarmHouse on this campus and other universities, you are challenged to further the principles of our fraternity; Faith, Ambition, Reverance, Morality, Honesty, Obediance, Unity, Service, and Excellence. |
